1 Malaysia Eco Building

Introduction

Nowadays, our world has been polluted. All human activities have the possibility of polluting the environment by contaminating air, water, food, or soil. The earliest human pollution-control efforts dealt with avoidance of diseases caused by contamination of water and food by human excreta and with the control of smoke from fires used for cooking and heating.

Pollution is the introduction of harmful substances or products into the environment. It is a major problem in all parts of the world. It damages both the environment and humans. It has caused many problems ranging from lung cancer to the greenhouse effect. It is among us all, but we continued to live our lives in our own filth. The lack of awareness among the people from all walks of lives in the environmental ethics had lead to the severances of this matter. The global warning is warning us it’s time to do something, that is why we started to do 3R (which is reuse, reduce and recycle).and started to think about “Green”.

However, green concept is all about to protect our world, reduce the pollution and save for our next generation. Back to our proposal, their mainly concept is about green as we have thought about to using waste which is 3R concept to recycle the waste we used, reduce the waste, and reuse the waste. The main point is to reduce the waste we used.


Background Study

Literature review

Eco building has been spread through the world since few years ago. There are some people that learn and build the eco building by their own. Daniel and Joanna Kanow are some example of the people who learn and build the eco building. They both moved to Telluride at 1997. They learn and built eco building by their own. They learn by consulting with a consulting engineer, designers, contractors, and builders. As Daniel said that “We’re trying to make fundamental changes — not green building as an alternative but as a sustainable, conscious practice”. That’s what their objective. There are many types of eco building. One of it is sand bag system. This system was developed in south-Africa by an engineer named Mike Tremeer. This system is low cost and it can easily be done by owner builder. The complete structure of using this system are water proof, fire proof, sound proof, and has a very good thermal properties. Its can be done I short period of time and the material can easily be transferred. This kind of building is ideal in an isolated area. (Eco-Beam and Sand bag Homes by Ashley Stemmett)

From all of the companies that working on the eco building, Eco Arc is one of the companies that has variety design of eco building. This organization is focusing on promoting the sustainable development across the board. Besides that, this organization also has lecture and teaching program in some architecture school. In additional, “Eco Arc has been Co founders of ‘Yorkshire Ecological Design Association’, active members of the National ‘Ecological Design Association’ and is active members of the ‘Association of Environmental Conscious Buildings’. Conclusion

Our product Eco building is trying to reduce the waste of “Dimension stone”. Base on the result, you can notice that it is not just about to reduce the waste. Besides that, there are a lot of advantages on it, and there is one more green advantage is that it can provide lower pollutants then the other materials. Therefore, our product Eco building has fully fulfilled the green concept of 3R. The next progress is to introduce Eco building around the world, then that is only how it can provide us a green environment.

Evaluation of Recommended Project:

1Malaysia Eco Building is a building with eco building concepts. Its concept introduces a revolutionary building product that will change the way builders construct homes in the future. 1Malaysia Eco Building is built majorly by recycling material such as dimension stones, metals, Recycled blocks, and ethyl tetra fluoro ethylene (ETFE). Thus, the raw materials that would be drawn from the earth can be saved. In addition, it can reduce waste disposal volume and improves recycled content. The construction of 1Malaysia Eco Building releases lower energy and produces lower pollutants than other standard constructions. For example, ETFE foil panel can transmit more light into building to save up to 40% energy. However, this eco building is higher upfront cost than other standard building. While there are cost-savings over time due to energy savings and health benefits, there is a much larger up-front investment. Besides that, it causes minimum damage to our environment. Thus, it is worth to invest RM12 millions in 1 Malaysia Eco Building.

Technical Specification

1. Design criteria of building

1 Malaysia Eco Building is available in accordance with Malaysia eco building standard, Green Building Index (GBI). GBI is Malaysia’s industry recognized green rating tool for building to promote sustainability in the built environment and raise. The GBI platinum or gold rating is our main goal to fight for. Thus, we are designed in accordance with the following GBI rating system:

a. Energy Efficiency (EE)

b. Indoor Environment Quality (EQ)

c. Sustainable Site Planning & Management (SM)

d. Material and Resources (MR)

e. Water Efficiency (WE)

f. Innovation (IN)

2. Materials

a. Dimension stone:

Dimension stone is 100% reusable and can be salvaged for new construction when other structures were demolished. It intensives lower energy and produces lower pollutants than other materials. They can be recycled as recycled pavers which used in street-walk.

b. Recycled block:

Recycled block is a high value use for waste glass. It is made from cement, aggregate, water, and glassfibres. Glassfibres can increase the tension strength of recycled block.

c. Ethyl tetra fluoro ethylene (ETFE):

The outside of 1Malaysia building is covered by ethyl tetra fluoro ethylene (ETFE) foil panel. ETFE can transmit more light into building to save more energy. ETFE has a non-stick surface, so it is a good in resistance of dirt. The cost of ETFE foil panel is RM 2 millions and less 40% than glass.

6. Erection:

1 Malaysia Eco Building is designed to be speedily erected with minimum equipment. Building can be erected using client’s own labours and we provide an erection supervisor on an hourly basis.

7. Quality Assurance:

1 Malaysia Eco Building is conformed fully with ISO 9001 Quality Assurance standards. It also meet requirement of GBI.

Building pricing:

The initial construction price of 1Malaysia Eco Building is about RM 8 millions. Since meet the requirement of Greenworld Sdn Bhd, the construction area is expanded and few new facilities are introduced. The construction price is increased to RM 12 millions. The construction area is expanded to 6000 sq. m. Some new facilities such as exhibition centre, culture palace and multi-racial food court are introduced in 1Malaysia Eco Building. The cost of 1Malaysia Eco Building is more expensive than other standard building due to using recycled material in building. However, it is worth that causes minimum damage to our healthy environment.

Commercial Viability Review:

As we all knew, nowadays, the population in the world is increasing. There will be many people that need place to stay. Therefore, by build the Eco-Building, there will be a lot people which will buy the unit. In additional, the Eco Building is quiet cheap which will make more customers interested in buying it. Most important of all, our idea about Eco-Building is build with a waste material with a quality that can compare with the international market quality. These why our product will be looked by the customer because it is high quality, low price and very convenient to stay. It is also an environmental friendly product.

In additional, from all of the companies which doing the Eco-Building project such as YNH Property Company, BCA Green Mark Company, Green Buildings Consultant Company, etc, our company still stand as the number one company which believed in doing the Eco-Building project. Sustainability development:

In additional, our company is a consulting company that makes use of waste material to build buildings. Our company product which is eco building will be used in every city. Eco building will reduce some waste materials and reduce the pollution to our environment. It will be a better place to stay and a great product for our environment. It will also make our environment healthier. In additional, we can also save electrical energy through the solar panel system which occupied in each of our eco building. These buildings will be very useful to our next generation to reduce the pollutions and waste materials.

Recommendation:

From all of the 3 ideas that we formed, we recommended the idea about “Eco- Building”. We recommend this idea because it gives more profit, more friendly to the environment, and the raw materials is easier to get and cheaper. Besides that, we recommend this idea also because this “eco-building” is needed by many customers due to the increasing of the population in the world.

Conclusion:

As a conclusion, the eco concept is the main purpose of coming with this method since our earth is having all sort of problem like weather change dramatically and global warming too. Besides that, by this project, there will be lesser waste material from building that wasted, thus our earth will become healthier and cleaner. Eco-Building project is a great and suitable project which met the demand of the customer and totally environmental friendly.
